Where the trail begins.
Washington County – Population: 1,900
The City of Banks is a small agricultural community located just 30 miles west of Portland, Oregon. Its proximity to the metro area makes this small town a popular destination for day-trippers looking to experience local u-pick farms and the area’s outdoor recreation opportunities. Keep heading west and within 45-minutes you’ll find yourself on one of Oregon’s coastal beaches.
Banks is the southern starting point of the Banks–Vernonia State Trail, which is a beautiful 21-mile paved path for bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians. The trail follows an old railroad line that once moved timber from nearby Vernonia to Portland.
Hampton has operated the mill in Banks since early 2017.
