FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 13, 2017

Portland, OR – Hampton Lumber will re-start operations at the company’s newly acquired sawmill in Banks, Oregon this week.  Hampton Lumber purchased the mill in August 2016 and shut it down for six months to perform much needed infrastructure updates to improve safety, efficiency, and optimization.

“We’re thrilled to be up and running,” said Hampton CEO, Steve Zika.  “We’ve received tremendous support from the local community and have hired a crew that we believe will make the sawmill a great success.” Hampton leadership, including Zika and co-owner, David Hampton were on hand last week at some of the company’s training sessions to greet new employees. The new crew includes experienced sawmill operators as well as those new to the business.  Once fully operational, the mill will employ roughly 50 people and process green Douglas fir lumber products.  The Banks mill is conveniently located 25 miles from Portland’s urban markets and transportation systems and is situated near several state and private forestlands, including lands managed by Hampton near the Wilson River.

Hampton Lumber is a third-generation family-owned company, headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The Banks mill will be an important part of Hampton’s existing network of sawmilling operations in Oregon, which includes well-established facilities in Willamina, Tillamook, and Warrenton.  Later this spring, the Banks mill will host an open house and invite the community to tour the newly improved facility and learn more about modern sawmilling.
